Today the New Hampshire GOP sent a letter to state Senator Martha Fuller demanding that she have out-of-state political operatives removed from the voting check list. The letter was sent in response to the discovery that Fuller had several out-of-state Democrats supposedly living at her home while working on campaigns who voted in New Hampshire rather than in the state of their permanent residence. If only one campaign worker voted from her residence, it may truly be a simple explanation that the worker indeed decided not to stay in New Hampshire; however, that isn’t the case with Fuller. She had several voting from her residence.
What is a bit shocking and should really get actual New Hampshire residents angry is that the former head of the NH Democrat Party, Kathy Sullivan, believes that anyone who comes here to work on campaigns temporarily should be able to vote here:
“The heart of the issue is that people who are living in New Hampshire have a right to vote in New Hampshire. Period. And if someone moves to New Hampshire to work, they have the same right to vote as someone who moved here for school, to be with family or to be in the military.”
She said that someone who knows he or she will leave the state a few weeks after an election has a right to vote here.
“The issue is: Where are you living on election day?” she said. “You have a right to vote where you are living.”
Say what? So Democrats believe that a temporary resident should be able to vote in elections that only effect permanent residents? How incredibly generous of them. So are people who happen to be vacationing here going to be able to vote as well? What about those who stay here just for a few weeks on business? What about people who have summer homes here or stay at one of the many campgrounds in New Hampshire?
The bigger question is how many other out-of-state Democrats were shipped into New Hampshire and how long has this been going on? Some elections are very close, only a few votes can swing the results to one side or the other. Having out-of-state political campaign workers vote in elections is not only ridiculous, it’s egregious to the residents who permanently live in New Hampshire. It defies election integrity; suppresses actual New Hampshire voters; disenfranchises voters and it reeks of political malfeasance. Permanent residents of New Hampshire deserve to have voting integrity in elections. It defies democracy if there is a party purposefully shipping in outside ‘help’ to change the dynamics of the state.
