Millions of Americans have been diagnosed with depression and prescribed medications (chemicals) to feel happier, but there is another way. Anyone can feel down from time to time and that sadness generally stems from the stresses of life itself. In a demanding world of never-ending multitasking and responsibilities, it can be difficult to stay positive and be happy all of the time.
It seems like a simple solution to a massive problem but studies have confirmed that a consistent practice of yoga brings great levels of joy, peace and happiness. Feeling happy comes from a number of different factors that could be affecting your mind and body at the same time. Here are three ways to live a happier more fulfilled existence.
The brain. Any form of exercise is going to elevate your mood by increasing your levels of dopamine and serotonin in your brain. A consistent yoga practice will not only make you feel better, it will also increase your energy level, help you think more clearly, improve your concentration and will have a profound affect on your memory. All of these benefits enable you to feel happier on and off of the mat.
The world. Practicing yoga will naturally make you a kinder, calmer and more compassionate person. Yoga teaches you to live in the present moment through the focus, breathing and patience required from you to accomplish each pose. When living more presently interactions with the world blossom and relationships deepen. Listening, feeling and appreciating more of your world brings on happiness.
Better health. Whether you’ve suffered from chronic pain, have had a health issue or have struggled with body image; it can be difficult to be happy all of the time. The good news is practicing yoga builds a better body inside and out. Flexibility, balance, strength and range of motion are improved. Yoga lowers blood pressure, releases toxins and increases immunity. With every practice your body is strengthened, sculpted and toned from head to toe. Yoga will also help you lose weight faster and keep it off for good. This transformation increases your confidence, improves your posture and gives you a greater sense of self worth. Who wouldn’t feel happy from all of that?
