Beachy waves never go out of style and as summer quickly approaches its an easy look to pull off in the hotter months. Unfortunately for us in the Indiana/Kentucky area we don’t have a readily available beach with salt water to help us achieve this look. Besides, who really wants to have that dirty sandy feel to their hair anyways? If you love the beachy hair look here are a few easy ways to obtain the beachy hair without all the grit of hanging out on a beach all day!
One of the easiest ways to mimic the effects of sea water on your hair is to create your own sea salt spray. All you need is:
1 teaspoon sea salt (Kosher salt works also)
1 teaspoon thick conditioner (try Suave Conditioner Natural Tropicals Coconut)
½ teaspoon hair gel (unscented so as not to clash with the smell of the conditioner like Alba Botanica Style Strong Hold Hair Gel Fragrance Free)
Mix together in a spray bottle and spray all over damp hair starting at the roots and working your way upward towards the middle. Don’t be stingy! If you happen to have dry or frizzy ends add some frizz cream to them. Scrunch hair and that’s it. If you don’t have the time to make your own sea salt spray try Organix Moroccan Sea Salt Spray or Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray.
If you prefer a more polished look using heating tools, the best curler to have is a clipless curling iron. It really doesn’t matter what size but you don’t want one that’s too big. You can also use a tapered or cone curling wand (my personal preference!). Spray hair all over with a setting spray like Fekkai Advanced Luscious Curls Wave Activating Spray or a thermal protectant like Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Flat Iron Perfector Straightening Mist. Take hair into 1”-2” pieces and wrap hair around the curling iron. Start from the root to the middle since you don’t want perfect waves just a little curl. Don’t worry if you don’t do all the hair, it’s supposed to look a bit messy. Separate the waves with your fingers and then run some texturizing pomade through it to give it definition like Redken Water Wax or Fekkai’s Highlight Care Illuminating Cream but just a little since it goes a long way.
Lastly, to create waves why you sleep, braid your hair into two pigtails at night. Make sure hair is slightly damp and spray it with some sea salt spray or volumizing hair product like Sexy Hair Root Pump Plus Humidity Resistant Volumizing Spray Mousse. In the morning just unbraid and run your fingers through it and you’re done.
