I was going to write an article on the emails between the businesses and myself concerning the some of the images. That article would help you to see the real life communication. I am going to include one of the last emails concerning the company that has been using my image and supplying it to other companies.
I have instead posted some photos showing how to identify the source of images that are used on websites using your browser. I am not going into the technical items because I assume you understand that the images you see are gotten from locations or caches when you look at a site. I know they will be hard to read but I will put a detailed report on Studio 1 The Magazine shortly. Those images are full sized and detail.
I have many people who do not understand the way the internet really works tell me the place they got the image. They do not understand I can use a browser and see where the browser is pulling the image. So when they tell you they got the image from one location, you can verify it or see where they really are getting the image.
The reverse searches work great and if you mouse over some the images from Google it will tell you where they got the image and if you click on it the image comes up larger and you have options on the right side to see the image, go to the page where they got it and the last one is the ability to search the image again. Works well.
Pinterest has their own storage as they put full size backups on their servers or in reality Amazon’s servers as that is who hosts them. From there it is more detective work to find the actual pages.
Here is a response from the company that posted my images over many sites:
Thank you so much for your generous offer of the use the image, and for helping to educate us a little further about this issue.
Perhaps a good way forward is for us to focus more on having users provide their own photos of the location. We do know that photos like yours really help entice people to visit these great places, and appreciate you sharing your own story about Honeymoon Island.
Please let us know anytime you have suggestions or questions about xxxxxxx.
I will be working on the article on the emails concerning the way things go with people who want to solve an issue and as you can see, they walked out of it with no costs and I will be setting up a gallery on the Studio 1 PhotoShelter site for images they can use for free to promote the parks and recreational services they promote with the NPS and NWF. The full article is scheduled for the magazine and will include company names. I will be posting some information here also.
And to the people who think this affects my images or fees, it does not. I can charge one person nothing and another one five thousand dollars. It is my choice. This company does a lot of good work promoting nature and the proper use of it and the parks. I have always supported this type of organization monetarily and with free usage of images. I have done it for over 30 years so I have a history to rely on.
The nude photography article and a comment on the Pinterest articles including the explicit photography will be done shortly so the questions as to when I will get it done can slow down.
I have been notified about two commercial businesses using my work and I have been working on the sites to see where they got their copies. One is a large real estate company and developer in Florida and the other is a large jewelry company and boutique in North Carolina. I will be showing those as examples later. The new ones on Pinterest just keep coming including the ones showing the GC that were never supposed to be put up. I may write a full article about that and the infringers who are using those images with the wrong copyright on them and will not remove them because of that. Turns interesting from here.
I will also do a small article on the APS vs full size sensors and the lenses they make for them. I will of course concentrate on the Nikon equipment. One thing for the novice who does not care too much about the techno babel. If you use a DX lens on a full size sensor camera, the camera will put a grid in the viewfinder that show you a cropping area. The area outside of that grid will NOT be part of your digital file. I will explain it to the more technical shooters in the article. I use a DX on my D700 but not for pro shots. The file size is almost half the size of the full frame files. The camera and sensor are seemingly downgraded to an APS camera. That is still a good image but you lose a lot. So know what you are doing when you buy lenses and cameras. This may not apply to Canon as Canon has some bodies that may not use the APS style lenses. I am not a Canon shooter so check that out with reputable camera shop.
