Living right; living healthy.
For a growing number of people from multiple audiences and walks of life, this is a focus on one’s day to day living. In making smarter choices regarding diet, food, and exercise, people are able to enjoy a more fit lifestyle.
But with the inundation of information, some sound and some far from it, how exactly can anyone enjoy the benefits of a healthier way of life?
This Sunday, June 2nd, the students and advisors of Marietta YELLS are hosting their community health fair. It is taking place at their community gardens at the Ashton Place Apartments complex from 3-5pm. Through the following learning “tools”, members of the immediate and surrounding community are able to learn firsthand through the following ways and means related to healthier living:
- Educational workshops sharing best practices on healthier food and diet choices.
- Cooking workshops and demonstrations hosted by Whole Foods.
- Fitness classes and related workshops focusing on health and wellness.
Through the combined efforts of the organization’s “bigs” (high school students) and the students they mentor, their “littles” (elementary and middle school students), the Marietta-based organization conducts multiple service projects and growth opportunities for its members. In addition, Sunday’s program allows them to chart the progress of their crops grown in their community garden through their Community Garden Fun Day back in March.
Giving back is one way to enrich and transform the lives of those in a given community. Giving more is what the dedicated members of Marietta YELLS do throughout the school year and even into the summer.
And that’s one for your health.
Eating healthy is one of the workshops hosted by the Marietta YELLS community organization. The food choice demonstrations are conducted by Whole Foods as a way to encourage ways to build a better and healthier diet.
Building a garden and a community
The “bigs”, “littles”, advisors, and fellow community members pitch in on last year’s community garden day. This is one of the ways Marietta YELLS not only gives back in the form of creating a neighborhood farmer’s market.
It takes a village
Marietta YELLS incorporates multiple members of the community in order to make a difference. Make sure to join them this Sunday from 3-5pm as they continue to be a resource to the Ashton Park and surrounding community.
