According to the federal Center for Disease Control, adults ages 18-64 should be getting 150 minutes of aerobic exercise a week. In our hectic lives full of work, family, and social commitments how do we have time to satisfy this requirement? Most of the time we never find the time even though exercise is always firmly implemented at the top of our to do list so in turn we must find other ways to sneak in our fitness. You can no longer say “I don’t have time” because these easy aerobic steps can be formatted to fit right in with your busy schedule.
It is important to first evaluate your daily schedule and figure out where the inactive activities exist. Once you have located these sedentary activities think about how you can manipulate them to make them active and productive. Anything that makes your heart beat faster can be classified as exercise so by doing every day activities faster and more intensely you can be working out without even realizing it. I will include just a few easy ways to start sneaking in fitness to your day!
As silly as it sounds, just dance! Take a couple of minutes out of your day to let loose in the privacy of your own home or wherever you choose! Put on a playlist of a couple of your favorite songs and just rock out as hard as you can before all the songs have ended. This type of exercise will be great for your heart and even better for your soul. This quick burst of fitness will elevate your mood and spirit immediately so why not give it a try?
Instead of meeting your coworkers for happy hour or drinks after work decide to meet in the park and go for a walk or even bring a Frisbee to play with. This may seem childish at first but soon you will be reaping the workout benefits while having a great time with your friends. You are also avoiding all those unwanted cocktail calories! You and your coworkers can also make a pact to park a little further from work so that you have to walk and get your blood pumping. This extra ten minutes of walking in the morning and evening will be extremely helpful to your body and put you in the right health mindset.
Also make time to play with your kids or even your dog outside in between making dinner or cleaning. This will ensure family time and also exercise for the whole group! Play a game of catch or maybe even some tag. Whatever you choose just make sure to get that heart pumping. These are just a few helpful tips to incorporate fitness into your everyday routines, but I can assure you the possibilities are endless for potential workouts!
