West Palm Beach may be one of the more beautiful locations here in south Florida, but it’s rare anything “cool” takes place in the area. Usually that kind of stuff takes place either further down in Miami or up north in Orlando. That will not be the case next weekend, June 7-9, as the first ever Fatality Fest, a horror convention, happens at the Marriott West Palm Beach (1001 Okeechobee Boulevard · West Palm Beach, Florida 33401).
The doors to Fatality Fest do not open until 5:00 PM, but things will be kicking off much earlier than that. A pre-party event will be taking place at the Mellow Mushroom (700 S Rosemary Ave #100, West Palm Beach, FL 33401) from 1:00 – 4:00 PM. Dress in your best Halloween attire and come on by for some pizza and beer. At the conclusion of the party, there will be a zombie walk from the restaurant to the hotel to help get this horror convention off on the right foot.
Horror conventions are often measured by the quality of guests they book. For their inaugural event, Fatality Fest is bringing in some pretty heavy guns beginning with Ernie Hudson (“Ghostbusters”, “The Crow”). Dee Wallace will be in attendance. She has starred in such horror movies as “Cujo” and “The Howling”, but is perhaps best known for being the mom in “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial”. Other notable guests are actor/writer/producer/director Scott Spiegel, Christopher Judge from “Stargate SG-1”, Butch Patrick from “The Munsters” and famed movie host and actor, Joe Bob Briggs. There are plenty more guests attending too. Click HERE to see the full list of them.
Other events are scheduled throughout the weekend. Are you on the hunt for some horror movie memorabilia? Be sure to check out the vendor room, as it should satisfy all your needs and perhaps then some. Some objects will be available through a silent auctions. Fatality Films will also be bringing you a film festival during this event. There will be panels with the filmmakers after wards and an audience award will be presented at the end of Sunday. VIPs will be granted early access to the convention on Friday night, as well as line -skipping privileges and they will even get a free autograph from one of the guests. In addition, they will get Fatality Fest gear and, finally, admission to the VIP party happening 8:00 Saturday night at the Mellow Mushroom. If you are a fan of horror, then Fatality Fest is a must for you. Even if you are not a big fan of the genre, this will be like Halloween in June in West Palm Beach. It is not too often we get such an interesting event like this in town and one can only hope there will be a Fatality Fest II, III, IV, etc. in this city’s future. Hope to see you all there.
