Conducting ordinary online purchases on the pinboard-style photo-sharing platform is proving to be a hit in the social commerce arena. The latest infographic published on Visual.ly by Vision Critical illustrates that the social network gives a lot of confidence to users since they will end up making a purchase.
The infographic provides a handful of important statistics, visual elements and critical findings for making a purchase on Pinterest. The data that was generated from asking 500 respondents who are registered with the social networking website.
Users were asked how they utilized it and how did Pinterest impact or persuade them to make a purchase. Overall 1 in 5 Pinterest users are purchasing items they have Pinned. In addition, about 12 percent of users who Pinned content went on to buy something later online. Whereas 16 percent of Pinterest users who Pinned their preferred items of interest made a purchase offline.
It seems that consumers who are active social media users on Pinterest are comfortable making purchase decision. It does seem that Pinterest is slowly but surely becoming a sales generating website and a consumer purchasing driver.
The trend is encouraging since the advent of social commerce didn’t fully take-off with Facebook. Another conflicting statistic with these encouraging numbers is users that signed up prior to 2012 will make a purchase (20 percent make a purchase online). On the contrary, Pinterest users who became members since 2012 are not as likely to make a purchasing decision right away (only eight percent will likely make a purchase).
