He is a talented artist who draws for ‘Marvel’, ‘ Star Wars’, ‘DC comics’, ‘Indiana Jones’, ‘Walking Dead’, ‘Lord of the Rings’, and the list goes on. Constantly busy, he is currently working on a project for Marvel that will portray women as strong heroines. A tremendous influence in the world of ‘Star Wars,’ Sobol happens to be a proud honorary member of the 501st and is always looking to give back to his comic community.
Q. Tell your fans about the projects that are you currently working on?
A. I’m currently working on a project for Marvel called ‘Women of Marvel’, which is a really great opportunity to showcase the women outside of the really narrow sex symbol spectrum. But as really strong super heroines and I love doing stuff like that because I really think that opens up the genre to everybody. I’m also doing a project for ‘Star War’s called ‘Galactic Files’ which showcases all the different characters. It’s a really neat opportunity. I do a lot of work for Lucasfilm. I also do a lot of 1980’s theme cartoon stuff. Right now I’ve got a 1980’s villains series of prints that I’m doing for Kickstarter. It’s called “My Name is Evil.” It features characters from Skellator from ‘He-Man’ and Megatron from ‘Transformers.’
Q. Do you have any other hidden talents?
A. I sing. I had a band in college. I was a literary major so I tried to write songs. Most people don’t know that because I make an effort not to sing now. It’s one of those things where if you don’t practice, then you stink, and I’d rather sing strong.
Q. If you were a baseball player, what would your walk up song be?
A. I actually always love that about the Rockies games here. I’m a Boston fan and I get hurt when I wear my hats here. No one song, but there are a couple of artists that anything they do just get me going. ‘Airbourne Toxic Event’ which is absolutely poetry, and ‘Vast’ which are kind of unknown and they’re just amazing, and ‘They Might Be Giants’”
Q. I saw a River Song sketch and wanted to know if you are a Whovian?
A. I actually am not. Not because it’s not good, it’s just because I’ve never taken the time to sit down and watch it. Everyone keeps telling me how amazing it is and I’m actually very interested. If I’m watching something, then I’m not drawing.
