Every city has one restaurant that stands out among the rest. This one restaurant does more than just serve food and drink, it also serves as the entertainment hub for the city that it resides in. For the city of Fort Smith, that restaurant is Neumeier’s Rib Room and Beer Garden. In Eureka Springs, that restaurant appears to be New Delhi Cafe, located at 2 Main Street Eureka Springs, Ark 72632. This examiner recently dined at this restaurant and witnessed first hand what this restaurant has to offer. So is this restaurant the entertainment hot spot of Eureka Springs or just a bunch of hype?
With an eclectic art scene and unique restaurants and specialty shops, Eureka Springs is a tourist town from the word go. This many choices can make it difficult to discover which restaurant is the entertainment mecca of the city. However if there was a restaurant that would fall into that category New Delhi Cafe would probably be it.
New Delhi Cafe is a tri-level establishment that, like the rest of Eureka Springs, is built into the side of a mountain. This means that there is more than one ground level entrance (there are two in fact, one on the first floor and one on the third). The restaurant also has the distinction of being featured in Ripley’s Believe-it-or-Not for having five separate addresses for one building. As interesting as the history of the restaurant is, it does not answer the question of “what is it like?”
New Delhi Cafe offers a large food and beverage menu to satisfy most appetites. In fact, not only does the restaurant offer Indian cuisine, it also features some of it on an all-you-can-eat buffet. Being a sucker for a buffet, this examiner opted for that and found it…kind of lacking. The buffet offered many great dishes, but most of them were vegetarian in nature. Before anyone starts crying out “where’s the beef?” relax, the meat is served separately with delicious flat bread. The problem is that the flat bread and meat is brought by the wait-staff, so if the restaurant gets busy you may have to wait awhile. One customer commented that the last time that she ordered the buffet, she had to wait several hours before their meat and bread came. The food on the buffet was delicious, but if you are pressed for time you may want to skip the buffet and order a hamburger or sandwich instead.
New Delhi Cafe also offers a full bar that can make almost any drink as well as the best selection of beers that this examiner has seen in any restaurant. The prices are “fair,” however ordering a lot of drinks can lead to a high tab quickly. The best advice is to drink in moderation, it will save your life and money.
Customers who come to New Delhi Cafe on the weekends can be treated to live music from various performers. When this examiner visited the restaurant, he was treated to the sounds of The Dusty Pearls. The duo is an up-and-coming band from the Tulsa-area and played a good selection of rock, country and original sounds. This examiner is hoping to see Dusty Pearls grace the restaurants on Garrison Avenue in the not-so-distant-future.
So hot spot or hype? To be honest you have to take the good with the bad at any restaurant, but there is more good than bad at New Delhi Cafe. They offer good food, great spirits and Class-A entertainment. Anyone coming to Eureka Springs for a summer vacation needs to make a stop at New Delhi Cafe.
