The first chapter of Genesis describes the creation and those who are true believers that the Bible is inerrant, must accept it as it is written or be able to explain what it does mean. For many years now, those who prefer to reject the Bible and its story of an all powerful Spirit God, have worked diligently in an effort to prove the Bible wrong. They have taken time into consideration and have offered the idea of the universe having been created billions of years ago. And that its beginning was from a fantasy miraculous occurrence of nothing exploding and filling the universe with all the innumerable bodies forming the cosmos.
The evidence for the Genesis record is far greater and easier to accept than the fantasy yarn of the exploding singularity. But many, who profess to believe in God and His Son, Jesus Christ, have fallen for the ancient age of the earth and are agreeing that God could have taken billions of years and called them six days in the creation.
If God could create a singular nothing that would create the universe in billions of years, why could he not build it in six literal days? Was it easier to construct a singularity that would sling every needed thing out into open space to create these billions of heavenly bodies in several billion years? Certainly not, and when one takes this approach, they are actually denying God’s omnipotence.
We will not attempt to show where the suppositions of age is in error, yet the explanations are available for those who would take the time to read them. A number of them can be found on gotQuestions?.org
Our efforts are to present evidence that the Genesis record does indeed, mean 6 literal days for the creation. One exceptional feature is that Jesus Christ himself gives a number of statements which show that he took the record as accurate and literal, even though he does not specifically mention that it was literal days.
But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. (Mark10:6)
Notice that Jesus said ‘from the beginning of the creation…”, not 4+ billion years into the creation. And regardless of when the evolutionists say man appeared on the earth, it was assuredly not in the beginning of the creation if 4 billion years later.
Moses expresses the time very obviously in literal days in Exodus 20:11: “For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.” Was the Sabbath the only literal day?
And Jesus rebuffs the Jews for not believing Moses words as truth:
Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? (John 5:45-47)
And more than anything else, if God had taken 4.5 billion years to bring Jesus to the earth, why would it be written as 6 days at all? There is strong evidence in the fossil record which show that the earth’s strata was not laid down over millions or billions of years but more likely was done so quickly in a world wide flood of massive proportions as is recorded in the Bible. One needs only to keep an open mind and see where the proofs are found.
Some [Darwinian] proponents see great significance in the fact that they can write short computer programs which display images on the screen that resemble biological objects such as a clam shell. The implication is that it doesn’t take much to make a clam. But a biologist or biochemist would want to know, if you opened the computer clam, would you see a pearl inside? If you enlarged the image sufficiently, would you see cilia and ribosomes and mitochondria and intracellular transport systems and all the other systems that real, live organisms need?
