Let’s hear it for the class of 2013! For most Florida high school students’ school is either over or in the last few days. However, for the high school student is school ever really over? I contend it is. Well, the school year may be over, but not school.
The summer provides a great opportunity for the high school student to continue their journey toward preparing for college. I would suggest that there are two things that you can during the summer months to get you one step closer to being accepted to the college of your choice. First, you can look for opportunities at your local community college to take a college class over the summer. And secondly, spend some focused time preparing for your SAT tests.
Most local communities in Florida have a community college nearby. Even if there is not one close enough to commute to, you should take the opportunity to take an online course. Like most any accredited college or community college, taking an online course provides the identical college credit as an on-campus one. The earlier you can take advantage of this opportunity, the better off you will be. If you miss the deadline, your chances of taking advantage of this first step may be missed.
The second thing you should take advantage of during these summer months, is to enroll in some kind of course or training class to help you be better prepared for the upcoming SAT’s. Sometimes, your local school or another local school in your area will be offering tutoring, or training on how to take the SAT test. Many times in an area, you may have someone who gives private tutoring in this area as well. You can also do searches on the Internet to find online opportunities and many of them are at no or little cost.
Don’t waste the opportunity to do either one of these two things. During the summer you don’t have the same stressors that come with the normal school year to deal with. You can be fully focused on taking a college class, and preparing for the SAT test to better prepare you for the next step in your life – College.
