Jaden Smith has told his parents Will and Jada Pinkett Smith that he wants to be emancipated now so he can live out on his own, according to Radar Online reports on Monday, May 13.
While Jaden Smith is making a film career for his self following in the footsteps of his famous father Will.He is only 14-years-old, he doesn’t have a driver’s license nor has he been on a date yet that his father hasn’t chaperoned.
Will Smith told The Sun during a recent interview that his son claims that he is ready for his independence and freedom, and wants to buy his own home and move on with his adult life at 14.
Smith stated that Jaden, who will turning 15 in July wants to live his life out on his own much like his close pal Justin Bieber. Smith also continues by saying that Jaden has asked for a very unique birthday gift.
“He says, ‘Dad, I want to be emancipated.’ I know if we do this, he can be an emancipated minor, because he really wants to have his own place, like ‘Ooh,’” Will explained.
“That’s the backlash. On the other side, if kids just want to have command of their lives, I understand.”
Will Smith, who has two other children, Willow, 12, and Trey, 19, claims that he has a really laid back and mellow approach to parenting, and has never reprimanded his children because he does not believe in it.
“We generally don’t believe in punishment,” he says. “From the time Jaden was five or six, we would sit him down, and all he has to do is be able to explain why what he did was the right thing for his life. I think it’s a much more difficult question to ask someone —’Why was that right?’ — than to try to show them why it was wrong.
“Nobody wants to be wrong, all parts of yourself fight like crazy to not be wrong. So I’ll say to Jaden, ‘Why was that the right thing to do for your life?’ and if he can explain why kicking his sister in the chest was the right thing to do, we can see to it that he understands that it wasn’t so smart.”
Thoughts about the subject of Jaden Smith becoming emancipated at age 14, just because he feels he is ready to be on his own is becoming quite a conversation, with many stating that they believe Will and Jada should take a step back and look at all the issues Justin Bieber has been dealing with and he is nearly 5-years Jaden’s senior.
Most believe just because Jaden Smith wants to be emancipated at 14, is no reason for his parents to let him, claiming that they feel if the Smith’s allow this child to have his way then they are just abandoning their parental ship.
