Johnstown Relationships- Celebrate the crazy!
I know what some of you might say about the title to my article. “What is she thinking?” “Is she crazy herself?” “If I read this am I crazy?”. Actually none of those things are true, well, I might be a little crazy. But celebrating the crazy is about all the different holidays we have, especially during the summer. I did a Google search for crazy holidays, and about.com gave me the answers. Apparently June is full of non-normal holidays. I think some of them are very suiting for the beginning of summer. For instance; June 1st is Dinosaur Day, Stand for Children Day, Oscar the Grouch’s birthday, and Donut Day. How about those holidays!
I know most of you will enjoy Donut Day, especially police officers (just kidding), but think about it; this is one day each year you can cheat on your diet and pig out on all the donuts you want. I am not sure they are calorie free, but skip the diet and go to the gym for longer times June 2nd. Dinosaur Day is a day most kids would love; I don’t know too many little boys who dislike dinosaurs. Everyone grew up with Oscar as a kid, he was always my favorite because he tried so hard to hate everything and everyone, but in the end he was a stand up puppet. Finally, Stand for Children Day is a day we grown-ups can appreciate the little ones and take a stand for proper childcare, medication, and to stand against child abuse.
My point is this: we all celebrate the major holidays but often forget about the little ones or non-traditional holidays. I think our society needs a bit of non-traditional every day. The mundane gets old and we become comfortable in that daily grind. We just kicked off the start of summer, kids are leaving school, and vacations are being planned, so why not celebrate a different type of holiday?
Summer is a family season; why not make the most of it. Celebrate Donut Day or Dinosaur Day. Making fun memories with your family is what everyone remembers when we get too old for fun. Or so we think we get too old. Sometime in June is fly a kite day, go fly a kite! Enjoy the summer of 2013! Go and CELEBRATE THE CRAZY!! As for me, I will celebrate Stand for Children Day and yes, Donut Day (I will rejoin my diet on June 2nd).
Make this summer interesting! Go out and enjoy life! Just because we choose to celebrate the crazy holidays does not mean you are crazy. You simply decided to be different and be yourself for a change. Happy Donut Day to Everyone, even the police officers!!!!
