The salaries of the “Teen Mom” and “Teen Mom 2”cast have never been released, but OK! Magazine claims to know the earnings of all the cast members. According to a May 23 report, after they posted the reported net worth for Kailyn Lowry, she spoke out saying that the numbers were “inaccurate.”
“Whoever is writing these articles about how much I’m worth are quite inaccurate. I wish I could give the real numbers.”
Ok! claims that all of the “Teen Mom 2” cast members make roughly $75,000 per season with some added bonuses. For Kailyn Lowry, though, they attempted to estimate how much she makes as a dental assistant (they say $32,000 a year) and included her husband’s income in her net worth.
There are no accurate numbers on how much MTV pays the girls and Kailyn Lowry has never disclosed her dental assistant pay, but military pay charts are public. According to Ok!’s report, Javi Marroquin makes about $2,000 a month. However, since he just finished training and will be going to his first command, he likely makes between $1,500 and $1,700, depending on his rank.
Then, OK! factors in that Javi Marroquin gets full medical benefits for both Kailyn Lowry and her son, Isaac. While there is no disputing that the military offers medical benefits for military members and their dependents, the report didn’t take into account that there are two different kinds of medical coverage offered by the military (one of which members end up paying much more out of pocket for their expenses.)
Finally, the report says that the two will be receiving paid housing. If the couple chooses, they will be able to live on base housing for free, but will not receive any additional basic housing allowance (BAH.) Kailyn Lowry has stated that, due to the breeds of their dogs, they will need to find housing out in town. That is what the BAH is meant to cover, but depending on the area where they are stationed, they may end up paying extra out of pocket for a place to live.
At the end of the day, it seems silly to dissect the income of these cast members. There are frankly too many factors to take into account (as can be seen above.) People could go on to dissect the salaries of dental assistants in the Pennsylvania area or even that of a pipeline engineer’s (the occupation of Leah Messer-Calvert’s husband whose reported income was tallied into an article on her net worth.) Sure, people will always be curious about how much MTV pays the girls, but it seems safe to assume that they aren’t making anywhere near what people think they make.
Randy Houska also pointed out that the numbers in the articles are inaccurate. It has to be troublesome for the cast members to see these reports and having so many people believe that the numbers are true. The show has been slammed for “glamorizing” teen pregnancy and when people see these numbers, it only leads people to criticize the cast even more. Hopefully one day they will be able to disclose how much they make just so people will stop assuming MTV made them rich.
