Announced on July 26, 2013 in Nashville, TN, the 12th annual Commodore Quake presents rap artists, Kendrick Lamar and Wale for their performance on Thursday, October 3 at Memorial Gymnasium on the Vanderbilt University campus in Nashville, TN. The doors open at 7:00 pm and University parking is free. Vanderbilt University’s homecoming concert has successfully enlisted A-list musical acts including those past of My Morning Jacket, Trey Songz, and more. Not only do the students enjoy these acts, but alumni and the public have a great time too. “Along with the Vanderbilt Programming Board Music Group, we are extremely excited about bringing Kendrick and Wale to our campus. These two artists have had a very successful summer and continuously receive a lot of radio play with their chart topping hits,” says Dwayne Elliott, Director of Arts & Campus Events at Vanderbilt University. “Commodore Quake has brought some of the biggest artists to perform for the Vanderbilt community and we are continuing our goals with the bookings of Kendrick Lamar and Wale.”
25 year-old rapper, Kendrick Lamar, who is from Compton, California has earned accolades as a popular rapper, and has been nominated for a 2013 MTV Video Music Award, has a certified platinum debut release, performed at this year’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, as well as the fast-rising and popular, Hangout Music Festival, and won Best New Artist and Best Male Hip-Hop Artist at the BET Awards. He is also a recipient of the Vanguard Award at the 26th Annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. Lamar used to be known as K.Dot and when he first started out in music, independently released Section.80 through iTunes. The album rose to the top of the digital hip-hop release charts that year. When his 2012 Interscope Records debut studio album hit shelves, the album received critical and fan acclaim, along with success.
Wale has had much similar success to Lamar. With his hard-hitting and raw sound, the Washington, D.C. native was a 2012 Grammy nominee for his single, “Lotus Flower Bomb,” and he became popular with fans with his popular hometown single, “Dig Dug (Shake It).” Wale has released several mixtapes through the years and has appeared on such pop culture television outlets like MTV and varied urban magazines. He signed with fellow Lamar record label, Interscope Records in 2008, and released his studio debut album, Attention Deficit in 2009 with the popular singles relased, “Chillin,” “Pretty Girls,” and “World Tour.” He is now signed with Mayback Music Group as of 2011, and released his second studio album, Ambition, that has been ranked at No.2 on the Billboard 200 chart. His third studio album, The Gifted, was just released earlier this year (2013), and has ranked No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart. His latest single, “Bad,” is a hit Billboard single, featuring Rihanna and has been certified Gold.
