This beautiful lab mix, taken in as a stray by Spartanburg Animal Control to Greenville County Animal Care Services(GCACS) has been rescued. This poor baby would be held for five days as required by law, then would be up for adoption or euthanasia.
He’s now on his way to a new home, along with a few other last minute rescues. This amazing rescue was made possible through Kindred Spirits Greyhound Adoption out of New York.
Although this isn’t a greyhound, the photo of this dog brought into GCACS on July 17 touched the hearts of many, including Kindred Spirits.
The rescue attempted to contact GCACS by phone and email, but they were never contacted back. This wasn’t the shelters fault, as they were dealing with another puppy mill seizure.
The Greenville shelter had an emergency last week with another puppy mill raid. They had it on their Facebook wall for people to come by the shelter, because calls and emails couldn’t all be answered, due to taking in 150 puppy mill rescues. This was in addition to the regular one every four minutes turn in rate this shelter has.
So on Saturday, July 20, a volunteer from Kindred Spirits began what would be a 16 hour drive to rescue this sweet lab mix. The rescue was waiting at the front door when the shelter opened.
Not only did Kindred Spirits rescue him (the shelter had the lab listed as female), but they also saved a small puppy who was being turned in as an owner surrender and a chihuahiua with a compound hip fracture.
All of these dogs are now safe, and the lab is reported to have a home waiting for him. An update will be written when more information becomes available.
Thank you everyone, for rescuing this older dog. People were literally pushing each other around at the shelter this past Saturday in an effort to get to the puppy mill rescues who were healthy enough for adoption.
It’s nice to see someone caring about the older dogs, as well as dogs who are injured. These dogs are often euthanized for lack of a home.
Kindred Spirits is a 501c3 organization that specializes in greyhound adoption. Anyone who would like to help Kindred Spirits, donations are always needed. The chihuahua they rescued Saturday will likely need treatment for its fractured pelvis.
With the price of gas to transport these dogs, plus the cost of basics such as food and then medical treatment, every dollar is appreciated.
The rescue of this sad looking lab came about because enough people cared to make something happen. Social media now plays a major role in helping these unwanted dogs find new and loving homes.
