Kris Jenner’s talk show. “Kris” beat out “Ellen” and “Dr. Phil.” She also had the top rated Monday show in the L.A. time-slot. However, will her show stay in the top slot, or is she doomed to failure. It will depend on the topics that Kris takes on.
Although she did well against other shows, she didn’t out rate “The Real. This is also a new show and they both debuted on July 15, 2013. When you compare the ratings of the two shows, “The Real” rated higher in metered market household ratings and key female demographics. It also improved the stations time-slot ratings from last year. Kris’s show decreased the viewer ratings for its time-slot.
Kris Jenner did a lot of promoting of her show on social platforms. On Twitter, she has 3 million followers. Her Facebook page was full of pictures of her and special guests. She also uses other social platforms to push her show onto fans. But it may be the posting of one particular picture on her Facebook page, which pushed the ratings up and also may have done the most damage to her credibility of future shows.
Some Kris Jenner fans are saying that the reason she did so well for her first show is because she posted this message on her Facebook page, “Will you be watching today’s first episode!? We have a special guest… You never know who will stop by our show today!” That, in itself, isn’t enough to grab viewers, but the picture that went with the posting was. Below it was a picture of Kris cradling a baby in her arms.
Anxious fans thought she was going to show off her granddaughter, North, but they were very disappointed when they found out the baby was someone else’s. According to the comments left by fans under the Facebook picture, many were not impressed. Many of the posts said that they would not be watching again, especially after this stunt.
So, whose baby was it? The baby belonged to a woman who styles Kris’ hair and does her makeup. This kind of promotional stunt does not endear fans to watch again. But Kris has a remedy for that too. She has Kim Kardashian planned on her future guest list, and she is hopeful that Kim’s appearance will boost her ratings sky high.
Verne Gay from Newsday had this to say about the show. “Jenner proved Monday that there is no subject that she’s quite as conversant in as . . . herself and her family. Despite a few segments not specifically Kardashian-related — Twinkies, belly dancing, glow-in-the-dark lingerie — the host always seemed to circle back to the most important subject in the world.”
Verne Gay ends with this advice, “On the off-chance Jenner doesn’t want to turn ‘Kris’ into just another cynical promotional opportunity, perhaps it’s best to start looking to other topics.”
