There are not many professional level youth choirs that are specifically tailored for boys who want to continue singing in a choir, but whose voices are changing or have recently changed.
However, the Young Men’s Ensemble (YME), a division of the highly respected Los Angeles Children’s Chorus, is specifically designed to support the maturing process of these young male voices.
The choir, led by Dr. Steven Kronauer, structures the choice of repertoire in a flexible manner, and sensitive to give room for the boy’s vocal maturation to take place without undue strain. Founded in 2009, the Young Men’s Ensemble has toured Germany, Austria and Italy and provides quality vocal instruction and musical skills, in a supportive environment.
YME are holding auditions for middle school and high school aged boys, on August 21 and 28, 2013, at the Pasadena Presbyterian Church.
To prepare for the audition, candidates need to prepare one solo art or folk song. They will also be evaluated on their overall musical skills, ability to blend their voices in choir, given a written music theory test and a sight-singing evaluation.
Young Men’s Ensemble meets for rehearsals each week, on Sunday evenings from 4:45pm to 7:00 PM.
Auditions will be held at Pasadena Presbyterian Church, located at 585 East Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, California 91101.
