You and your family can have a wild and wooly time at Lake Metroparks Farmpark’s annual Woolfest in Kirtland, Ohio on Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23. Kirtland is approximately a 30 minute drive from Cleveland.
Woolfest Presented by Pat Catan Craft Centers, Woolfest gives visitors a chance to learn how woven and hand-spun products are produced from the fleece of various animals like alpacas, llamas, sheep and angora rabbits. And guests have the opportunity to get up-close and personal with lots of fiber-producing animals.
Activities include demonstrations of sheepherding, animal shearing, weaving, knitting, spinning and fiber processing. Hands-on fiber activities will also be featured.
There will also be plenty of free, live musical entertainment with musical performances by several folk music groups.
Woolfest will also offer a variety of fiber workshops. Classes include rug hooking, knitting , weaving, spinning, felting. dyeing, beading and spinning yarn. You must pre-register online for the workshops.
Of course, there will be plenty of shopping opportunities at Woolfest provided by more than 25 vendors. The Marketplace will have hand-knitted, hand-woven and handcrafted fiber products for sale. You will also be able to purchase natural fibers, books, fiber craft supplies, clothing and art produced from animal fibers.
While you are at Woolfest make sure you don’t miss the Fiber Arts Show on display at Lake Metroparks Farmpark’s Visitors Center. Nearly 200 pieces of fiber art are featured including crocheted, felted, woven and knitted items in addition to hand-hooked rugs from the Western Reserve Rug Hookers Guild.
Traveling the Globe through Wool and Wine Lake Metroparks Farmpark is also offering this special fashion show and wine and fiber event on Friday, June 21 (from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.) featuring garments hand knit using yarns from Italy, Australia and countries of South America. Guests will be able to enjoy tasting wines from each of the spotlighted regions during the fashion show. Finger foods will also be served.
The event, hosted by the herd from Ewes d’Bleu Yarns of Distinction, also includes a raffle and door prizes. You can register online.
Hours for Woolfest are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $6 (ages 12-59), $5 (60+) and $4 (ages 2-11). Parking is free.
