The official “Star Trek” convention in Las Vegas is aiming to recover its Guinness Book world record for the most people in “Star Trek” costumes in one place. The convention held the record for two years prior to being surpassed by an event held in London in October of 2012. The current record to beat is 1,063 people, which is only 23 fans above the previous record held by the Vegas convention. The attempt at winning back the title will occur on August 10 at the convention, which will be held at the Rio Suites Hotel.
Creation Entertainment, the producer of the convention, is inviting fans to come in costume to have fun and be a part of bringing the award back to Vegas. According to Creation:
Certainly part of the amazing camaraderie of the weekend is thanks to the fabulous fans who take the time to dress up and come in costume, allowing for tons of wonderful photo taking and cosplay at the show. Our appreciation to all who do this: you really make the convention that much more exciting for all in attendance!
The convention will be from August 8-11, and will feature more than 104 guests including three captains: William Shatner (Captain Kirk), Avery Brooks (Commander/Captain Sisko) and Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway). Special honored guests from the original series include: George Takei, Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig. Cast and crew from all of the TV versions of “Star Trek” as well as from the more recent movie incarnations will also be on hand.
Tickets are available from single-day general admission to various packages at different levels. All tickets include guaranteed seating according to their level. Autograph and photo op tickets are separate but you will need to have an admission ticket to redeem them.
