In their latest poll published today titled “NH SOURS ON OBAMA’S FOREIGN AFFAIRS, THINK COUNTRY IS ON WRONG TRACK” by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, it’s pretty clear that Independents (who are the majority voting bloc in the Granite State) are not happy with Obama or his policies. At his high points, Obama’s approval by Independents was at a whopping 65% but he has steadily lost their support and it doesn’t appear it will get better anytime soon.
It’s interesting that Obama’s disapproval ratings on his “handling of the economy” have been mostly higher than his approval ratings on a continuous basis. As the economy continues to struggle after almost 5 years of Obama’s presidency, it doesn’t appear to be getting better and people are going to realize that it is indeed due to Obama’s economic policies (he no longer has the “free ticket” of blaming Bush in his 2nd term).
What is really going to hurt New Hampshire Democrats is the extreme disapproval by Independents regarding Obamacare. Approval of Obamacare is at an all-time low – 15%. Now that Americans understand more of what’s in the bill (still not sure if Shaheen or Shea-Porter bothered to read it), it’s becoming clear they are not happy with it. Since both Senator Shaheen and Representative Carol Shea-Porter voted for Obamacare, there are going to be tough questions in the upcoming elections as to why they continue to support it.
Also in the UNH poll, it shows the majority of voters in New Hampshire have never approved of Obamacare. Apparently that didn’t mean much to Shaheen or Shea-Porter since they both voted for it. Shea-Porter and Representative Annie Kuster are also going to be questioned why they voted against delaying the individual mandate. Since Obama decided to delay the employer mandate (which may wreak havoc on employees), the House decided that the individual mandate should be delayed, but not Shea-Porter and Kuster.
Obama’s disapproval ratings on foreign policy are also rising. Between Benghazi, Egypt and the utter chaos in the Middle East that Obama was a part of and continues to infuse America into, it’s not likely to change either.
Another big thing that isn’t in the poll that is going to affect NH Democrats are the numerous scandals (Benghazi, IRS, DOJ, NSA etc) that are growing by the day (yes Obama calls them “phony” but most Americans don’t agree). Shaheen even has ties to the IRS scandal because of a letter she wrote asking the IRS to look more closely at certain types of non-profit applications.
It also doesn’t help that Shaheen voted for an anti-gun bill that was far overreaching against citizens’ 2nd Amendment Rights (“Live Free or Die” need not apply to Democrats). What is a further embarrassment for Democrats was the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coming to the Granite State and reading off the names of cop killers and a terrorist as if they were actual victims of gun violence.
If the trends continue to run this way, Democrats are going to be in for a big fight come 2014. Those along with the outrageous discovery of multiple out-of-state Democrats being shipped into New Hampshire to campaign and vote in the state are not going to bode well. New Hampshire is a swing state and it seems as though the pendulum is starting to swing the “right” way already.
