Summer is a great time for family gatherings or just a picnic. Here’s a perfect park to enjoy food, and recreation with your family. Churchville County Park is a 742-acre park north of Black Creek on North Main Street in Churchville. It is only 17 miles west of downtown Rochester at 33 Buffalo Road, intersection of North Main Street and Kendall Road.
The spacious park is for the whole family. It’s just right for picnics with 5 lodges and 6 shelters for rental and four restrooms spread all through the park. It playgrounds are distributed in the park. A car-top boat launch, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, disc (Frisbee) golf, tennis courts, and Geo-caching round out their facilities. Youth and adult leagues commonly use its 2 soccer fields, and 3 softball fields.
A variety of trees attract birds for bird watchers. Fishing is permitted on Black Creek in the park for those with a fishing license. The park offers ice-skating during winter on a natural rink off Main Street at the Church Lodge.
The park is one of the Monroe County Parks who own and maintain it. All pets must be leashed in the park and owners are responsible to clean up their droppings. A carry out rule is in the park requires removing your garbage upon departure from the park.
Summer Park Hours (April 1-October 31)
Open daily from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
Lodges and shelters are available for rental from 10:00 AM.
Winter Park Hours (November 1 – March 31)
The park is open Monday to Thursday 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, and Friday – Sunday 7:00 AM – 11:00 PM
Lodges are available for weekday rental from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM and weekend rental from 10:00 AM – 10:30 PM
Churchville County Park also has a 27-hole golf course first operating in 1932. Churchville Golf Course is at 643 Kendall Road. It has an 18-hole course and a nine-hole course both regulation. Fairways are spacious with few hazards. Black Creek flows through both courses.
The western nine-hole course has rolling over-sized greens, with two dogleg fairways. The eastern eighteen-hole course has fairways lined by trees with small greens. There are four dogleg fairways and three par threes between 180 and 210 yards long.
Regular green fees for 9 holes are $8.50 weekdays and $9.00 on weekends. Regular green fees for 18 holes are $11 weekdays and $12 on weekends. Pull cart rental is $1.75 per round and riding carts are $5.00 for 9 holes.
Churchville is a village in Monroe County with a population of 1,961. The village was named after early settler Samuel Church. It is at the intersection of routes 33 and 36 north of US 490. Riga is a town east of Churchville with a population of 5,590 whose name is pronounced RYE-ga.
