On Tuesday, voters in South Carolina’s First Congressional District elected Republican Mark Sanford to represent them in the House of Representatives. Twitchy reported that the victory sparked a loud chorus of profanity and hate from a number of liberals on Twitter who hoped that Elizabeth Colbert-Busch would be the first Democrat elected to the House from the district in over 30 years.
“Can we just nuke South Carolina? Kill it with fire at least?” one person asked.
“You could put a mass murderer with an R beside their name and win the South Carolina election,” said another person upset with Sanford’s win.
The vast majority of tweets Twitchy captured were too profane to publish here.
“Though the district is a Republican stronghold, Democrats considered the race winnable because of Sanford’s marital woes,” Twitchy said. “Liberals aren’t happy, and some of them are taking it out on South Carolina voters.”
“SC has got to be the most idiotic state to elect a lying SOB,” one person tweeted.
Voters were called a variety of names, from “idiot” to “redneck.” Some liberals even went after the women who voted for Sanford.
“There’s a lot of women in South Carolina voting for Mark Sanford…. SC republican women are freaks,” one person said.
“SC just elected a national joke to represent us in Congress. But we will all pay for this choice together. Thanks, rednecks,” said another Twitter user.
“Did you people forget? South Carolina voters gave us Jim Demint (sic). What the hell would you expect from these backward redneck morons?” added “Mikey.”
Sanford won the election with over 54 percent of the vote. Colbert-Busch, who was listed twice on the ballot, received just over 45 percent of the vote.
Politico said that Sanford “managed to turn the race into a referendum on Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic establishment instead of himself.”
“That was the winning play in the deep red district,” Alex Isenstadt wrote.
