This is one of my favorite metaphors. The big picture is constantly changing. The way you see things is constantly changing as you grow. The planets change their relationships as they move through the zodiac and rarely if ever repeat the same configurations over again. Each day is a unique experience. I often check the various cycles of the planets to compare today’s situation with previous ones.
For example take Mars, which runs through the zodiac in about two years. That’s not very long in the greater scheme of things. Mars is a timekeeper, setting off events when he crosses the Sun or the angles of the chart. The last time Mars crossed the ascendant/descendant axis into my 7th house, above the zodiac horizon, I got a new job. Mars will be there again in September and I don’t know what to expect but naturally I’m hopeful. The other planets, such as Jupiter and Saturn are now in different signs than they were two years ago and that will make a difference.
Jupiter takes roughly twelve years to clear a complete cycle. The last time Jupiter came to his natal place in my chart things were going fairly well but nothing special happened. It may have had to do with Saturn transiting in my 4th house. But twelve years earlier I got a new job and my kids started going to school all day. I suddenly had much more freedom and it was an exciting time for me. I also had a great Sun Venus progression going on at that time.
Saturn takes 28-30 years. A lot can happen in that much time. During the first Saturn return I was home with two little kids in Wyckoff, Bergen County. I was on the mommy track. Obviously this time is much different. My kids are grown, I’m single and I’ve been out in the world forging a career. I see things in a different, more mature way.
Then you have the outer planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto which can block or excite things if they aspect your Sun or the angles. They can change the big picture of your life substantially. I’m convinced that Pluto has been blocking my progress since he entered Capricorn and opposed my Sun and Cancer planets. Pluto has taken things away too. If you are expecting something wonderful with a certain transit and nothing happens it’s probably because of one of the outer planets.
It’s all a grand and wonderful dance. Nothing stays the same. Remember that when you are going through a bad patch. Things will get better soon and you will have learned something along the way.
Be sure to read my forecast for June that will post June 1 on Celestial Navigation.
