On June 14, Disney Parks Blog released details on its special Fourth of July events at both Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla. and Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif. As part of Disney’s Limited Time Magic promotion, both Disney Parks will celebrate Independence Day for an entire week, from July 1 – 7.
Fourth of July at Walt Disney World Resort
As the Disney Parks Blog notes, “Independence Week” will take throughout Walt Disney World Resort (WDW), Magic Kingdom is the hub to many of the holiday happenings.
In keeping with the patriotic holiday, Magic Kingdom’s holiday fireworks – in which the rockets red glare is just part of the colorful display – will take place every night between July 1 – 7. Called Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky, the 14-minute fireworks spectacular, with a new concert-band style score, will be matched by the patriotic red, white and blue lighting projected onto Cinderella Castle.
Celebrate America! fireworks will takes place at 9 p.m. on July 3 and 4, and 10 p.m. on July 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7.
Magic Kingdom’s Celebrate a Dream Come True parade will mark the holiday with pre-parade entertainment that includes the Main Street Philharmonic, Citizens of Main street, and a horse-drawn calliope. Disney characters get into the fun, too, with Goofy, Donald and Pluto dressed up as a colonial fife and drum corp.
Even the Disney desserts get themed, with many locations serving treats that seem made up of one-part nostalgia, one-part Fourth of July picnic and one-part Americana. The result is all Disney. Storybook Treats is the spot for Red, White and Blue Strawberry Shortcake, while Epcot will sell a Skillet-Baked Peach Cobbler with Vanilla Whipped Cream or a Red, White and Blue “Baked Alaska” Mousse.
More in the mood for an apple-pie taste, because what’s more American than that? Try Disney’s take on the flavor, delivered as a Fourth of July Cupcake with apple pie filling, caramel butter cream and apple crisp topping. The cupcakes will be available at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom or Downtown Disney.
Fourth of July at Disneyland Resort
Similar to Magic Kingdom, Disneyland Park is hub for the Anaheim resort’s “Independence Week” special fireworks, offering Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky every night at 9:30 p.m. during Independence Week.
Mickey Mouse also greets guests in star-spangled, patriotic attire every evening in Town Square on Main Street, U.S.A.
Guests who choose to visit Disney California Adventure park across the esplanade will be treated to a patriotic pre-show for World of Color, and are encouraged to wear a special pair of illuminated Mouse Ears (available for purchase) so they may Glow with the Show.
Disneyland will also offer its own holiday treats Red, White and Blue Mason Jar Desserts served at Disneyland Park’s Carnation Café. Other All-American snacks to be sought out at Disneyland, especially Main Street, U.S.A., include “patriotic” cotton candy, apple-pie pockets and 4th of July cupcakes.
At both WDW and Disneyland, guests may pick up holiday-themed, Disney souvenirs, from USA shirts and trading pins to light-up star necklaces and Duffy costumes. Disney PhotoPass users, who must register for the service online, will be able to purchase a special Independence Week Disney border for their park photos.
Independence Week is yet another event in Disney Parks Limited Time Magic promotion, focusing on offering guests short-lived surprise moments, often announced close to the dates during which they occur. Limited Time Magic events take place throughout 2013.
