On the heals of the announcement that Big Crush Records is the formation of a new label / promotions company by melding together Sugar Pop Records, Fleming Entertainment, and The Bedlam Group; two of their artists performed together at one of Tewksbury’s great energetic night spots. The place, The Skybox; the bands, 2013 Debut Artist of the Year (Alternate Root Magazine), from Lubbock, TX Littlewolf and, this year’s New England Music Award Nominee for best new act, Dressed for the Occasion from Boston, MA.
Dressed for the Occasion returned from a southern US tour just before the New England Music Awards ceremony in the middle of April playing at the New Act show at the Back Page in Lowell, MA. If you haven’t had the chance to see them since they’ve come back, you’re going to want to take in a show pretty quick. DFTO, as they are so commonly referred to, kicked off the night setting the mood for great music and energy. As they began to play a few notes a transformation began to take place from a sports bar into a concert hall. DFTO is a band that doesn’t need to play allot of covers to keep you entertained and the night’s renditions of so many of their original hits, like Midnight Sky (a personal favorite), was a testament to that. With tour seasoning they’re better than ever. DFTO will be at the Hard Rock, Boston next Saturday night, with another of Big Crush’s new talents, Jacob Heal.
When Littlewolf took the stage, they completed the transformation; The Skybox was now a concert hall, right down to the shades down creating a great backdrop covering the neon bar signs completely and changing the ambiance of the room dramatically. The four standing, and one sitting, musicians on stage brought years of experience and talent that would impress anyone looking at their resume, but you don’t need to read about them, just listen to a few bars and you’ll be impressed. Before they head back south they still have a few shows in New England including Friday night at Lowell’s Back Page and then they’ll be in Manchester on Saturday June 1st which will be a great opportunity to see and listen to Littlewolf right here in the Queen City at Milly’s Tavern.
All too often people seem to talk about artists sounding like someone else. In the case of DFTO and Littlewolf they both deserve to not to be compared with others as much they need to be appreciated for their own unique style and sound. Appreciate them up close and personal by seeing them soon
