Liverpool has been going about their business in their preseason friendly schedule with solid progress and are set for the final preseason match of their Asian tour this Sunday Jul. 28, 2013 in Bangkok Thailand after arriving for training this morning of Jul. 26, 2013.
While club’s such as Arsenal and Chelsea have put up massive 1-7, 8-1 and other score lines the Reds have been solid with three clean sheets with eight goals scored between games against Preston North End (0-4), Indonesia XI (0-2) and the Melbourne Victory (0-2).
While many will see it as not as impressive as other club’s preseasons so far, the fact that new goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is settling in behind his defense is already promising going forward. The club’s first ever Belgian signing has already staked his claim to the first team with the club having loaned out former number one choice Pepe Reina to Napoli.
The recent arrival of Luis Suarez from his prolonged holiday thanks to the FIFA Confederations cup has already seen the Uruguayan provide an assist in just 18 minutes of time on the pitch to new signing Iago Aspas.
Although the goal scoring numbers have not been exponential the little things are starting to be done right. Even though it is preseason you can see players go after the ball if possession is lost. Passes are getting crisper and the buildup out of the back continues to improve in every match as the players get reacquainted with one another.
Players, such as Aspas who scored from Suarez’s square across the face of goal, are in the right place at the right time, something that has been lacking for the last few years. New bonds of friendship and strengthened comradeship in already existing relationships are starting to visibly appear.
There is certainly a new feel of, “this is the time to make a difference,” in the squad at the moment. Young players are pushing the veterans and impressive performances from youngsters such as Jordan Ibe in preseason continue to give hope to the club’s future.
Even stars that have been rumored unsettled in the past months such as Martin Skrtel have come out and expressed their delight that the club have been winning matches and keeping clean sheets in interviews on Liverpool’s official website.
All around the Reds seem to have a different mentality this summer as if they have finally decided enough is enough with falling down the English Premier League table and it is time to start restoring this club to its rightful place in the top four.
The continued Suarez transfer saga is certainly going to follow the club for the coming weeks until it is resolved, but it seems there is no way that the player can force a move, if he truly wants one. Media speculation is speculation until something truly happens.
For now the Reds look set to continue a strong preseason and recently re-signed veteran skipper Steven Gerrard looks back to full fitness and ready to lead his club forward when the real action kicks off in mid-August.
