The Mountain Regional Arts and Crafts Guild, Inc. is holding their seventh annual Mountain Fling at the North Georgia Technical College in Blairsville. There is one remaining day to check out the beautiful art work of local artisans. The Mountain Fling will open at 11:00 a.m. and conclude at 4:00 p.m.tomorrow.
Along with 59 other artisans, The Shake & Bake Ranch has a booth filled with all natural goat’s milk soap, dirt soap, and shaving cream.
Nancy F. Raper, of Rupert, Georgia, was doing a brisk business this morning as customers stopped to ask about her products and purchased a few to take home. It is difficult to walk past row upon row of beautifully designed soaps and bottles of shaving cream without taking a few home.
The soaps that Raper had on display were large enough to last a family of four a month, or better. There are more than a dozen varieties to choose from, including goat’s milk, avocado, coconut, emu, honey and zeolites clay. What makes Raper’s soaps special is the lack of harmful chemicals. Instead of the harsh, skin-stripping ingredients found in commercial soaps, those from Shake & Bake Ranch contain natural oils, eventually eliminating the need to apply and reapply lotion throughout the day.
Soap shouldn’t strip the top layer of skin off the body, but it does. Commercial soap is very damaging to the skin, drying it out and leaving it looking old and wrinkled. Handmade soaps, like those found at Raper’s ranch, replenish the skin with natural oils. Raper uses avocado, camellia seed, caster, coconut, emu, hemp seed, olive, neem and wheat germ oils. Each one of these oils helps lock in moisture in skin, never leaving hands or other body parts dry and cracked.
There are also many scents to choose from. In fact, the soaps can be used in aromatherapy.
Dirt or clay soap can also be purchased from Shake & Bake. Several different types of clay are used to make bars of soap for all skin types and problems, such as blemishes, redness and dryness.
For everyone who doesn’t have the time or equipment to make their own soaps and shaving creams, Shake & Bake Ranch is a good place to visit and place an online order. Visit at shakenbakeranch.com, or call 478-737-2215.
The only way to get the message across to commercial soap manufacturers that the public doesn’t want products that are harsh and potentially carcinogenic is to buy direct from local artisans who produce a superior soap. While these soaps may seem to be a bit higher than store-bought soap, the truth is, these soaps last longer and eliminate the need for hand lotions, medications for dry, cracked skin and other products that claim to make hands look younger.
