“Mad Men” offers up their season six finale Sunday night, and AMC’s gives just one sentence describing the “Mad Men” finale on Comcast, “Don has a problem.” What might that problem be? NBC News on Sunday June 23, asks “If Don Draper died in the “Mad Men” finale, would anyone care?”
They go on to say that the perfect ending would be to see Don jump out the window, much like the animation at the opening of the show where the man is tumbling slowly towards the ground. They follow up with this never being the case, Draper is the star and besides they killed Lane off with a suicide for last season’s finale.
What is Don’s problem? Could it be that he has finally found the one woman he wants and actually loves, but realizes he can’t have her? That would be the neighbor he’s been bedding down, the one that his daughter caught him with. Or could his problem be that everyone that used to love and respect him now despises him? Even Peggy called him a “monster” last week, a name he deserves.
Megan has out lived her usefulness as a wife for the character of Don Draper in the AMC “Mad Men” show, the writing is on the wall for that character to depart, maybe leaving Don alone again. If that did happen, he could turn into a stalker and stalk the doctor and his wife because he is so in love with her? He seems to be going off the deep end these days.
Some of the more juicier theories rattling around online have to do with the “Rosmary’s Baby” reference that has been weaving in and out of episodes all season six. Will Megan become pregnant or will it be someone from Don’s extracurricular activities? Others, like IB Times, suggest that Sally could become pregnant, but that’s a hard sell after seeing her totally not ready to even kiss the boy in the last episode.
IB Times also suggest that there’s been a subtle thread through season six that Meghan’s been having an affair. Could it be with the doctor who’s wife Don is doing? Or better yet the doctor’s young son? Don’t forget how desperate she was to keep him out of the military.
Pete Campbell is a mystery this season, especially during the last few episodes with his interaction with Bob, who is one strange dude. Will Pete take a walk on the wild side (only the wild side for that era) and finally realize his attraction for men? Will he take Bob up on his advances? His luck with ladies has been nothing to write home about.
Peggy has got to stop falling for men that are taken. First it was Pete and now Ted. Will she end up with Ted? It looks like Joan might move herself up in the company, as she seems to be the only one doing any real work around the agency. Will she land Avon and be the new female Don Draper? That would be a breath of fresh air.
The past season finales have been Don asking for Megan’s hand in marriage, Lane hanging himself, so what big story line will bloom on the season six finale Sunday night? Watch the final episode for season six Sunday night at 10 p.m. ET on AMC.
