Several stories that are developing in the mainstream and alternative media indicate that gun control proponents in Congress and in state legislatures are facing major blowback for their stance on passing new restrictions on the gun rights of American citizens.
Fox News is reporting that one of the states where there is significant blowback is Colorado. Many rank and file citizens in the state are outraged that a Democratic controlled legislature and governor’s office succeeded in passing some of the most restrictive new laws in the nation, in spite of the overwhelming disapproval of citizens. Legislators who voted in favor of such laws face recall elections.
Further, state legislators in Illinois have disclosed to the Examiner that were it not for the dominating influence of the Chicago machine, the state would never have succeeded in passing restrictive gun control laws. In response to the overreach of gun control forces, the Illinois House, thus, has voted to approve concealed carry for gun owners.
So heavy has been the pressure of citizens on legislators that even some who represent Chicago districts voted in favor of concealed carry.
Although gun rights proponents lack the votes and clout in the New York legislature to approve relaxing the state’s strict new gun control laws, there has been serious blowback from ordinary citizens upstate, particularly in areas such as greater Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Waterbury.
Further, a rising groundswell of citizen civil disobedience will begin to become evident this summer as gun rights activists have openly declared their intention to defy the new gun control laws in certain states by smuggling forbidden weapons and accessories into those states.
Among the accessories that will be smuggled include ammunition and high capacity magazines that have been banned by state governments.
The degree to which new gun control measures and proposals have been received negatively by citizens is due in part to the obvious overreach on the part of anti-gun activists and politicians. It has become clear that the movement is opportunistic, seizing mass shootings for the purpose of doing a “blood dance” on the remains of the victims, using them as props to advance an agenda that most citizens oppose.
Further, the proposed laws give the public the strong impression that rather than dealing with the perpetrators of mass shootings and the circumstances that are unique to each individual criminal, each of which are united by severe emotional instability and unbridled rage toward society, the gun control crowd chooses instead to demonize and vilify ordinary gun owners, 99.9 percent of whom never use their firearms to commit crimes.
And yet another consideration is the growing public perception that not only are citizens unable to depend on police to respond quickly enough when one’s life is in imminent danger, but government is viewed increasingly as a malevolent entity that is not to be trusted. The Second Amendment, according to these citizens who agree with the Framers of the Constitution, serves as an important source of leverage the populace can wield against an increasingly oppressive central government.
