Wayne Rooney’s transfer saga continues this summer as he is reportedly pleading to leave the club according to the Daily Mail on Jul. 16, 2013. The out of favor star forward has been linked with moves to both Arsenal and Chelsea and the London clubs could both enjoy the use of his talents.
Arsenal continue to have a debate growing as to whether they should chase Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez of Liverpool or Real Madrid’s Argentine attacker Gonzalo Higuain.
Chelsea on the other hand have been linked with a few moves, but the prospect of chasing Rooney could be an intriguing possibility for second stint Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese manager was an admirer of form Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and he could be interested in picking up one of the potential disgruntled scraps from the Scottish mastermind’s former squad could be a sneaky but effective move.
Rooney has been overshadowed since the arrival of Robin Van Persie from Arsenal last summer. The England international has been looking for a way out of Manchester for the past few seasons, but only now is it really starting to come to a head.
Chelsea certainly have the money to spend and they need another forward that can play a central striking position to give them a full complement of four main attackers once Rooney is paired with Fernando Torres, Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba.
Arsenal continue to spin their wheels for two players that will be harder to pry from clubs than potentially Rooney. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho already made comments to the potential effects to the player’s National team career if he is forced to play as a second option to RVP:
‘If Wayne is a second choice for Manchester United, then the national team will be affected.’
Chelsea could offer Rooney the best potential place and some of the best attacking support in the league. However, United will not likely want to sell to a domestic rival as Arsenal have been more than willing to do in recent years.
Due to that problem, Rooney will likely be shopped to foreign major powers such as Real Madrid, Monaco or PSG. However, with Edinson Cavani making his move to the French capital, the Parisians might be ruled out unless they could get rid of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the process.
All in all Arsenal are likely to falter in an attempt for Rooney and Chelsea will fight hard but have to potentially pay a massive fee. The Rooney saga is likely to play out for the rest of the transfer window as United try to find a good solution.
