Manchester United made a splash of a signing earlier this year in the January transfer window when they agreed to purchase young rising star Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace. Having been enjoying his football for his new club this summer during the Red Devil’s Asian preseason tour, Zaha is ready for more according to comments to the club’s official website on Jul. 27, 2013.
At the time Zaha’s deal was not a major story due to him being loaned back to Palace until this summer. Now that the youngster has made the move he is already starting to see just what a massive world renowned club like United have to offer.
The youngster opened his story account for the club in a goal against Cerezo Osaka last night in what would end as a 2-2 draw for the club in Japan. Zaha himself admitted to the amount of confidence that he has already taken from the strike:
“I’d had so many chances during the previous games so I’m happy I managed to get a goal.
I have dreamed about that moment. I just wanted to score for Manchester United and I finally did it.
I’m not a player who scores all the time, although I’d like to be. I’m just glad I can when I get the chance.”
During his time at Palace, Zaha scored 18 goals in 142 appearances over the past three years, excluding his debut single appearance in 2009-10. His biggest goal now beyond getting his first goal in a United kit is to fight for first team action this year:
“My target is to get minutes during the season. For my first season in Manchester, I don’t want to go out on loan. I just want to play when I get the chance.
[The tour] has been enjoyable. It’s the first time I’ve been away with everyone and I’m getting to know them and bond with them.
I was awestruck when I first came. But just being around the other players makes me know they are down-to-earth players. They are just like me, really.”
As the club gears up for the second part of their preseason, Zaha will have to continue to prove himself for David Moyes to keep him at Old Trafford and from sending him out on loan.
It is likely that Zaha could make a move on loan to ensure he gets first team action more regularly. However, with David Moyes’ recent speech about building the club from the youth at their disposal, the midfielder could have a place in the plans of his new manager after all.
