Bus stuck, bike crash. The 100th 2013 Tour de France began with the tour bus stuck under the finish line minutes before the first riders arrived. Marcel Kittel Germany 19dodged a major bike crash (about 20 riders) that sent cyclers one right after the other into the pavement. The riders are already riding under pain and duress during the second state of the Tour de France.

He’s a sprinter. He came from behind the immediate pack to cross the finish line during the first stage yesterday. At the end of each stage the riders begin to consume enough calories to repair for the day and to begin the store up of calories for the next day. The riders are burning 3,500 to 4,500 (equivalent to 6-pounds of steak or 2 boxes of Cliff bars and a half-dozen gels) calories per stage, and to repair and prepare, another 1,500 to 2,000 calories are needed to make healing adjustments. Most riders will burn 600-900 calories per hour. Their bodies can only process 250 to 300 per hour.
Breakfast, three to four hours before the race starts
Breakfast mainstays, pasta and oatmeal, cereal, carbs are key to the energy. Nothing new in the diet will due during game day, you need stick to what your body will accept. Avoiding stomach distress and the stress of new foods is not the way the diet gets played out.
Two hours before breakfast
Before the race, slow-release carbohydrates are on the menu, along with special drink mixes, and the calories are up to 2,500 by this stage.
Small bags that can be passed along to team members contain pressed sandwiches. Beverages and recover bars make up the days calories. Lunch today, during the second stage will be eaten on decent at 50 mph.
After the race
Recovery beverages, and a type of recovery trail mix-like snack along with a light carb and protein dish to aid muscle repair on the ride back to the hotel.
Massage at the hotel
Then dinner prepared by the team Chef from their own equipped food truck. Meals consist of 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fats, about 2,500 calories.
