The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts issued a press release this morning, May 10, announcing a change in this July’s 2013 Live at Peck Pavilion series lineup. This second annual summer series will now feature “The Spirit Family Reunion” on Tuesday, August 20 at 7:30 p.m. It will also include performances that the Marcus Center typically presents inside the building on the newly updated grounds. This change will enable the Marcus Center to invite the public to sample the arts in a fantastic setting for a nominal cost.
The new, updated schedule for the 2013 Live at Peck Pavilion series lineup is as follows:
July 23: The Slide Brothers
Calvin Cooke, Chuck Campbell, Darick Campbell and Aubrey Ghent share the Sacred Steel tradition. These legendary artists create joyful music that encompasses blues, rock and soul to form a sound that is uniquely their own.
July 30: The Dunwells
The Dunwells present an invigorating English rock and American roots blend that originates from the pubs and clubs of Leeds, England. The group has already made a lasting impression on fans with their excellent musicianship, classic roots songwriting, and soaring harmony vocal.
August 6: Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) Showcase
The nation’s largest and most extensive youth orchestra program offers the highest level of training in ensemble musicianship to a ground of talented young people from diverse backgrounds across southeastern Wisconsin. MYSO provides students with a range of experiences in order to foster talent, build character, and enhance lives through music. This nationally acclaimed organization serves over 900 young musicians from fourteen counties in Southeaster Wisconsin and is a proud founding member of the United Performing Arts Fund.
August 13: The Florentine Opera Company
The Florentine Opera Company exhibits the highest musical and theatrical standards, while supporting community and educational programs. The Company is the nation’s sixth oldest opera company and a leader in Wisconsin’s art community. It strives to establish a significant presence in the cultural, educational, and civic life of Wisconsin and beyond.
August 20: The Spirit Family Reunion
Spirit Family Reunion play homegrown American music to make audience members stomp, clap, shake, and holler. Originally singing together on New York City street corners, farmer’s markets, and subway stations, their songs have a resounding and timeless feel to them. The Spirit Family Reunion create a sense of community as the audience soon feels one each other and the group.
August 27: Red Baraat
Red Baraat is a pioneering eight-piece band from Brooklyn, New York that has drawn worldwide praise. The band creates a merging of North Indian bhangra rhythms, jazz, go-go, brass funk, and hip-hop. Formed with the sole purpose of bringing joy and unity, Red Baraat brings a unique experience to spectators.
Performances for the 2013 Live at Peck Pavilion series are Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. from July to August 27.
