“Pain & Gain” is a film based on the true life story of several muscle men who worked at the ‘Sun Gym’ in south Florida. They planned to extort rich people out of their money that left two individuals dead. This movie is set in 1995 & stars Mark Walhberg, Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) & Ed Harris. According to the official website of “Box Office Mojo” which tracks movie grosses. “Pain & Gain” is a hit with film audiences tallying up $35,315,054 since its’ theatrical release in the U.S. The production budget is estimated at $26,000,000. Micheal Bay is the film director.
The action comedy movie is garnering mixed reviews across the board. The murdered victims families protest the movie because it puts a comical spin on a real tragedy in their lives. There is nothing funny about what happened to their loved ones.

“48 Hours Mystery” on CBS aired a full investigation on this story called, “Muscle and Mayhem” (April 27, 2013). ’48 hours’ goes in depth on this crime story. A young successful couple were found killed then chopped up in barrels & buckets that were dumped in a Florida swamp. These muscle men called, ‘The Sun Gym Gang’ made this couple their second target by kidnapping & the plan was to torture them so they would give up their money. It went wrong & the gang ended up killing them.

Their first target was a male accountant who was committing medicare fraud. The gang decided to kidnap & torture him then take his money. They believed he wouldn’t report them to the police because of his fraud activities. A comedy of mistakes were made by the gang & the police called them the ‘Key Stone Cops” gone bad. They finally kidnapped the man & after two weeks he gave up his million dollar estate & life insurance. More stupid comedy ensues as the gang tried to kill the man by setting him on fire in a car. The man ends up on the ground so the gang decides to run him over twice. He is presumed dead but isn’t.
The ‘Sun Gym Gang’ had dreams of grandeur & were obsessed with it. Since they couldn’t work for the money they decided to extort & commit murder to attain it. The two leaders of the gang were convicted of premeditated murder & were sentenced to death. Both men are now appealing their convictions while sitting on death row.
