Yesterday, the Grammy-award winning dynamic duo Mary Mary graced The Howard Theatre stage and rocked the house with some of their greatest hits “Go Get It,” “God in Me,” “Yesterday,” and “Walking.” Fans were lined up around the corner from The Howard Theatre to see the group perform as early as 8:00pm with doors opening up at 9:45pm for the 10:00pm second show. The performance was powerful from beginning to end with a packed crowd of Mary Mary fans out of their seats for the duration of the concert showing the group so much love while singing every word to their favorite song as they snapped pictures and recorded video.
To top it off, fans were shown even more love when Mary Mary performed an emotional “Can’t Give Up Now” from their first album Thankful. Fans were near the front left of the stage singing along when season two winner of Sunday’s Best and D.C.’s own Y’Anna Crawley comes out of nowhere and Tina hands her the mic as she belts out the chorus to the song. The surprise did not stop just there – the night just keeps getting better. Following Crawley, Grammy-Award winner and Sunday’s Best Season three winner Le’Andria Johnson is passed the mic and sings her heart out “I just can’t give up now – I’ve come too far from where I started from.”
Not only did fans get a chance to be up close and personal with Mary Mary during the concert, fans who tune into their hit reality TV show can relate to the sisters for bearing it all on national television and keeping the real in “keeping it real.” Mary Mary entering their third season has shown fans that the Gospel duo faces challenges like anyone else from juggling their demanding careers while managing their family life and staying true to their faith and love for God. Fans who watch the show even see a little glimpse of sibling competition and “sister to sister” quarrels but fans know even though the two sisters disagree on things – it’s all in love.
During a break in song, Tina promotes Mary Mary’s Twitter page. Erica follows up by asking fans to follow her on Twitter. Tina shoots back, “This is the Mary Mary show – hold off on that solo stuff until I’m gone.” For those of you who watch the show, season two ended with Tina having her new baby boy and the group breaking up with Tina making plans to do solo projects. Tina said during the concert, “If ya’ll have been following the show – you know that it’s coming to an end” as Erica says, “don’t say that” and fans in the audience shout out no and “It’s okay.” “I’m late sometimes and I’m a little complicated – so she wanna do her own solo thing. So she left me. I’m just by myself so the group is over basically,” Tina said. Erica looks at her sister and said no – Tina tells the crowd, “Well I guess we’re not broken up but ladies and gentlemen here’s Erica.” Erica then performs her new single “A Little More Jesus.”
D.C. just could not get enough of the dynamic duo and as they ended their concert and walked off stage left, the crowd starting chanting repeatedly “Mary Mary.” Mary Mary once again showing D.C. love came back with an encore performance as the crowd got out of their seats shouting and singing with their hands in the air to the song “Believer” from their 2005 album.
Fans here in the District – back by popular demand – tune into Mary Mary Season three on WE tv. This past year has been both overwhelming and exciting and we were happy to share those moments with our fans.”
