Melissa McCarthy seemed to have been holding back her thoughts about what one critic said about her more than four months ago in the New York Observer. Finally, on June 13, the celebrated actress’ opinions were shared in The New York Times.
Setting the scene, back on Feb. 7 Rex Reed wrote about Melissa McCarthy in the context of a movie review of the film called “Identity Theft.”
The author of what turned out to be a scathing review called the actress “tractor-sized”and other nasty monikers only to rewarded with what some might call poetic justice. Indeed, fellow journalists and social media pundits came down on Mister Reed for his irrelevant name calling and this push made the critic’s mean comments go viral.
However, one person didn’t discuss the matter at the time. That was Melissa McCarthy.
Still, this typically jovial entertainer was obviously stewing about Reed’s obnoxious remarks while also actually feeling sorry for the guy who had apparently acted out for some reason through the tools of his trade.
With regard to his “Identity Theft” review of her, McCarthy said to The New York Times, “I felt really bad for someone who is swimming in so much hate. I just thought, that’s someone who’s in a really bad spot, and I am in such a happy spot…”
Melissa discussed how Reed’s printed words definitely were hard to take, at least at first. The Oscar nominee realized she was glad she was old enough to take his comments from the place in which they were dished out. However, the actress did say that if this had happened when she was younger she would have been “crushed.”
At that point, the conversation between McCarthy and the writer from the Times came to a halt when a fire alarm sounded in the venue in which the two were talking.
When the noise stopped, Melissa McCarthy weighed in again, saying, “I imagine [that alarm] is my publicist [coming to interrupt us].” She said it seemed that this subject was one “the gods didn’t want [her] discussing.”
And so it goes this week for the lovely Melissa McCarthy, a person who knows who she is and an actress so many fans are excited to see soon in her new flick. Thank goodness the movie called “The Heat” and starring McCarthy and Sandra Bullock will be premiering in just two weeks on June 28. Stay tuned and get ready to have a good laugh.
