Memorial weekend is finally here and other than having an extra day off, there is going to be a movie showdown at the box office. In one corner is: “Fast 6“ starring Vin Deisel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker and many of the stars from the previous 5 movies. In the other corner is: “Hangover Part 3”, which stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms. Which movie will come out on top? Will the last Hangover movie kill the competition or will the 6th installment of the Fast and Furious series drive away with the box office gold?
For the people who may not know what happened in the previous series of these movies, here is a quick refresher course.
The first Hangover movie takes place mostly in Vegas where Stu(Helms), Alan(Galifianakis) and Phil(Cooper) lose their friend Doug(Justin Bartha), who is getting married, after a crazy night of heavy drinking and also unfortunately getting drugged. They relive their wild and crazy night. This results in a “hot mess” of a movie. The second one is similar to the first except they lose Stu’s soon-to-be brother in law and it takes place in Thailand.
The first Fast and Furious movie is about an undercover cop named Brian(Walker) and how he is trying to bust Dom’s(Diesel) crew, race car drivers who also hijack merchandise from trucks. The second one is about ex-cop Brian O’Conner who teams up with his ex-con friend Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) and works with undercover U.S. Customs agent Monica Fuentes (Eva Mendes) to bring Miami-based drug lord Carter Verone (Cole Hauser) down. The third movie is irrelevant and the black sheep of the series. The only useful piece of info from that movie is that Han Seul-Oh (see what they did there) (Sung Kang) is in it and that it takes place after the next two movies, which makes it even more irrelevant. The fourth one is similar to the first and is like a reboot for the series. Brian is a cop again, but not for long, who is trying to get Dom and his crews names clear. In the process he gets Letty(Michelle Rodriquez), who is Dom’s girlfriend, killed, which has Dom coming back to avenge her death. After they get the people who killed Letty, Dom turns himself in and when he is sentenced to 25 years, Brian breaks them out and they go on the run. In Fast Five, while on the run they stop in Brazil and get their crew together aka many of their friends from the other movies and plan to steal $100 million from a corrupt business man. However, Luke Hobbs(Johnson), is an agent who is trying to arrest them. In the end, with the help of Hobbs they get away with their money and everyone goes their separate ways. In the end credits it is discovered that Letty is still alive and thus the mystery is set up for “Fast Six”.
Wow that’s a lot of movie background, but trust, without having to spend a day and a half that sums up both series, even though both series would be fun to watch.
But which will win? Will New Yorkers be in a funny mood and sit thru Hangover or will people be ready for an action pact movie that should come with moving seats in the theatre? It’s anyone’s game and the games will begin on Friday, May 24, 2013 when Memorial weekend begins, so let the funniest or fastest movie win.
What movie will you be going to see this weekend? Maybe both. Comment below about which movie you are going to see and which will come out as the big winner of the weekend.
