Former Memphis and USWA wrestling promoter and announcer Corey Maclin died Tuesday night in a car accident in Panola County, MS.
Mississippi Highway Patrol said Maclin died in a one car accident where the vehicle rolled over around 11:pm on Tuesday.
Maclin was heavily involved in professional wrestling primarily in the Memphis area where he would often feud in one way or another with WWE personality Jerry Lawler. Maclin and Lawler were involved in a ugly civil case where Lawler accused Maclin of selling a video library Lawler held the rights to which Maclin denied. The story was made more interesting because the suit was filed while Maclin was running for Shelby County (TN) Clerk.
Maclin had sent a cease and desist letter to Lawler just weeks before Lawler filed suit to keep Lawler from using his (Maclin’s) image on local wrestling TV shows.
Though some stars of the area had a turbulent relationship with Maclin they always spoke well of him.
The wrestling world is saddened to learn of Corey Maclin’s untimely death and our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
