He fooled colleagues, he fooled his profession, he fooled the San Mateo County Supervisors, he fooled the justice system, he fooled parents, but ultimately it was the children he preyed upon that he did not fool which greatly brought this professional child predator to justice.
For decades Dr. William Ayres used his psychiatrist office in the worst way possible, to target the most vulnerable of vulnerables of our society, young boys already needing mental health assistance to help them cope with trying life situations. Dr. Ayres used these very children to manipulate them in the worst way possible.
Child molesters abuse by average nearly a hundred victims in their lifetime, however in Dr. Ayres case his numbers have well exceeded that. Going back to 1960 the District Attorney office uncovered 50 victims that Ayres abused through referrals from the San Mateo Juvenile Justice system, schools, and other doctors. Hundreds of more victims are suspected to exist, however the vast majority have melted away due to time, perhaps preferred to suffer in silence, or worse.
Some of Ayres victims have committed suicide according to victim advocate Victoria Balfour in an article published by San Jose Mercury reporter Joshua Melvin.
Ayres manipulated everyone crossing his path to feed his latent homosexual tendencies, an issue still not adequately addressed in psychiatry itself. Ayres used his professional training to pretend he suffered from dementia while faking behavior and tests to successfully avoid prosecution in his first trial. A year ago he sat in a state mental hospital which he knew would protect him against prosecution. It is not surprising the extent Ayres used because child molesters are expert in avoiding accountability.
The ruse of Ayres blew up on himself two years ago when a forensic doctor noticed Ayres could remember certain people and information he should not have been able to remember due to his claimed mental issue.
Later in 2011 San Mateo Country Superior Judge John Grandsaert ruled that Ayers grossly exaggerated or faked his condition. The house of cards built by Ayers was in the stage of collapsing.
Ayres was able to delay or squirm out of any responsibility just as any other arrogant self-righteous evil doer would perform. Ayres is a splendid example of how education lacking morality manufactures a brute capable of unspeakable horrors. One can deduce Ayres became the very disease he pretended to alleviate in a pretext of helping the many children put into his care.
Now at 81-years of age, Ayres had the final audacity to plea “no contest” after exhausting practically every legal maneuver to avoid guilt. The carnage left in this man’s wake could hardly be paid by the few years he has left of his pitiful life. This is where justice fails to match the punishment needed to set the balance of fairness.
His own insulting pomposity is revealed in a statement Ayres made himself in his defense of his sordid actions. Out of his own mouth he blankly reasoned, “I only touched boys for physical and genital exams as part of their treatment”.
One would immediately think why in the world would a doctor of psychiatry need boys to ever lower their trousers so he could physically examine their genitals? Ayres in his own twisted mind thinks there is nothing wrong with how he thinks.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychiatry
Out of your mouth you will be justified, and out of your mouth you will be condemned is a Bible standard for incriminating oneself. There are other examples of Ayres tripping up himself in the stacks of testimony given during the two trials. The preponderance of evidence against him is staggering.
Hopefully a measure of redemption can be experienced by the many victims of Ayres, but it is doubtful any full satisfaction can be obtained by the small price of freedom Ayres will ultimately pay. Even a death penalty would be meaningless since Ayres has already lived a full life.
The few short words of “no contest” after all the posturing just is not fair enough to compensate the victims.
