Fans on our Facebook Paul McCartney Tour news page are glowing in the aftermath of Sunday’s Paul McCartney concert at the FedEx Forum in Memphis.
Paula Priddy Bingham Monday called it “three hours of music history and the greatest recording artist of all time. From start to finish…. amazing!” Dana Koch said, “I came from Canada for the show, and loved every minute!!! What a show, best ever.”
Fletcher Terry graciously allowed us to use his photos from the show in the slideshow. His great video of Paul performing a blistering version of “Junior’s Farm” is also on this page.
“It was positively the best show I have ever seen,” commented Tony Sobczak. “Paul is still at the top of his game. I am still in awe of his singing and playing. Truly amazing. He really gave his fans there money’s worth.”
“Lots of dreams came true in Memphis,” wrote John Homa. “Paul noticed the mixture of generations at the show. And he had to stop and read the signs, even the one that said ‘Paul, read my sign’.”
“My wife and I were in Nashville in 2010 and St Louis last year. Memphis, hands down, was the best show we have seen,” said Fletcher Terry.
The media was equally praiseworthy of the show. Bob Mehr of the Memphis Commercial-Appeal called the show “a truly epic and awe-inspiring performance from a man just a few weeks shy of his 71st birthday.”
As we noted in our report last night, McCartney made two changes in the setlist, dropping in “I’ve Just Seen a Face” and “Get Back.” The show’s soundcheck also included a rare performance of “Big Barn Bed.”
A big group of McCartney fans enjoyed a pre-show concert outside the FedEx Forum with music by local group Jeffrey and the Pacemakers.
The Associated Press reported that McCartney left a guitar pick at Elvis Presley’s home of Graceland “so Elvis can play in heaven.”
