2 Guns – Being directed by Baltasar Kormakur, who did “Contraband” which I didn’t like, I still have faith in this because it looks like Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington are having fun. The trailer I’ve seen made me interested and laugh, and I’m always up for a backstabbing crime-thriller.
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters – You know, the first “Percy Jackson” while not good it wasn’t terrible. This looks like a major improvement to me with some funny dialogue in the trailer, and Nathan Fillion who can do no wrong. The effects still look cheap, but I think it might be more fantasy fun than its predecessor.
Elysium – Neill Blomkamp blew us all away with his “District 9” which I still believe is a modern classic. He proved that he knew what he was doing there, we can only hope for the same with “Elysium.” It looks as good as I’m hoping for.
Disney’s Planes – NOT being a Pixar film, this can’t be good right? Well with Pixar’s recent quality decline you never know. If this is actually “good” I might die inside.
We’re the Millers – This looks alright, no great jokes pop out at me, but it could have the chops to be one of the better comedies in this lackluster year.
Kick-Ass 2 – This is going to be good. I just have that feeling. I love the first “Kick-Ass” and am sad that Matthew Vaughn isn’t directing, but everything I’ve seen just gets me more excited for this.
The Butler – I hope and pray that this is the film to change Hollywood’s glossing over of the subject of racial history. I haven’t seen any trailers, so a man can only hope.
Paranoia – I love Harrison Ford; I love Gary Oldman; I like Liam Hemsworth; and I like Amber Heard. The plot looks okay, but predictable.
Jobs – Do we need a Steve Jobs movie yet? I don’t think so, and having this starring Ashton Kutcher doesn’t persuade my thoughts on it either. However, I do think it looks good.
The World’s End – Edgar Wright is one of my favorite directors working today, and when he teams up with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, they give us wonders. I have the highest hopes for this and from what I’ve heard, it doesn’t disappoint.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones – Another “Twilight” wannabe. I’m not expecting much at all.
You’re Next – I have this inevitable soft spot for horror films involving stalkers with masks. It just creeps me out and gets my interest immediately. I hope this delivers where others have failed to.
Closed Circuit – I know nothing about this and hope to keep it that way.
One Direction: This is Us – Ugh. It’s directed by Morgan Spurlock which is all that can get me excited. But I saw and liked “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” so I’m not going in prejudiced.
Getaway – Ethan Hawke is one of my favorite actors working today; with Selena Gomez coming in as her own, this looks good.
