Joe doesn’t know it but his father was from another dimension and left Joe the secret to inter-dimensional travel in the form of a crystal pendant. But when sexy Laura, a resistance fighter from another dimension shows up, Joe is quickly drawn into the battle. Joined by AT, a type of interdimensional mercenary, they band together to fight the invading warlord Ferris.
Rutger Hauer (AT), Josh Charles (Joe Talbot), Stuart Wilson (Ferris), Andrea Roth (Laura).
A bit slow to start but the momentum picks up after a while and things get moving fairly well. The story plugs along for a while then seems to fragment and lose focus a bit. Almost like they realized time (or the budget) ran out and had to hurry up and end the movie. Needless to say the ending is a bit disappointing. The movie had a good premise it just didn’t have great delivery.
Acting was a mixed bag. Hauer was his usual self, seemingly thinking he was better than everyone else. Well, in this one he was. Charles was pretty green when he did this movie and although Roth was lovely to look at, her acting was green as well. Ferris and Black did about the best in this one and even they weren’t all that interesting.
Special effects were pretty good considering the age of this film. It is hard not to compare them to newer effects which would have added quite a bit to the film. Camera work, sound, and dialogue were all well done. Sets and costuming were also well done indicating a quality film with a decent budget.
Overall, not a bad film but, not a great film either. If you are a sci-fi buff or a big Rutger Hauer fan you will probably find some pleasure in this one. Otherwise look for something a bit better.
Some violence and language but really this one is okay for preens and above.
