As kids playing a prank they ended up killing the neighborhood ice cream man, Buster the clown. Years later Buster is back for revenge, using the children of the now grown kids who killed him to get to their parents and of course, using ice cream to make it all happen.
Brent Sheppard (Kent), Maxwell Neck (Kenny), Tim Henry (Papa Joe), Lee Tergesen (Layne), Colin Cunningham (Virgil), William Forsythe (Buster).
The plot used by We All Scream for Ice Cream was interesting with the idea of voodoo ice cream being fairly unique. Sadly, that is about as scary as the film got. Good character development up front helped explain the plot early so we could jump into the blood, guts, and scary stuff quickly. But the scary stuff never really got scary, at first coming off as a bit campy and then getting just plain boring as it was repeated over and over. Nice blood and guts shots but it was disappointing that Buster wasn’t a scarier clown and really didn’t even make much of an appearance as a monster until the end of the film.
Acting was disappointing other than Forsythe who was wonderful as both a loveable clown and a spook. There just wasn’t enough of him to save the film, particularly without supporting acting.
Sets, costuming, camera work, sound, and special effects were all nicely done throughout. Dialogue was lacking, coming off as campy and just plain annoying at times.
Overall, just not a scary film. Good story and somewhat entertaining but, seriously lacking as a Master’s of Horror entry. If you are a freaky clown fan or like more mild versions of horror you may enjoy this one. If you are looking for a horror flick though, skip on this one.
Blood, guts, and the whole scary clown concept mean this one isn’t for younger kids but teens and above should be fine.
