The popular movie streaming portal Movie2K disappeared from the Internet without a trace early last week. After Movie2K went down and was no longer working, speculation of what could be the cause of the Movie2K outage began on blogs and social media networks. Users began asking questions such as: Was Movie2K down because of a hacker attack, or was it the police? Why isn’t Movie2K working? Will Movie2K be back up? Based on information from both German sources and the reputable TorrentFreak, prosecutors from Dresden, which is the capital city of the Free State of Saxony in Germany, were behind the Movie2K shutdown. However, as reported by IBT on June 2, Movie4K has now risen to replace the defunct Movie2K.
The operators of Movie4K posted a statement on the site which read…
“Nobody should have the power to suppress somebody just because of money!
This site is the result of the need of many Human Beings. Everyone wants Movie2k.to/Movie4k.to back.
We, the Citizens, have to make clear that a “copyright infringement” cannot be compared to a violent crime. How come bootlegger get five years of jail time while child abuser are free on a 22-month probation? That is because money is way more important than an unique human life.
You cannot suppress the will of the People! One website goes, the next day five new appear. Did not the time come to overthink your marketing concepts and accept the new media?
So: FU Hollywood, FU GVU, FU Anti-piracy and FU Police. But we love Obama!
Thank You to all supporting us! Let’s not give up and fight for our internet freedom! #Movie4k”
But can we trust the safety of Movie4K? Due to illegal platforms such as Kino.to or Torrent.to which clearly had mainly financial interests, often with criminal rip-off advertising and Trojan attacks on their own users. The founder and CEO of the former site Kino.to, Dirk B., is said to have earned millions of dollars because the illegal platform recorded advertising revenue with subscription traps, adware to foist trojans, sports betting and online gambling offered to premium accounts.
On April 30, 2013, the operator of the website Torrent.to was sentenced by the District Court of Aachen to three years and ten months in prison. He had achieved, at peak times, monthly income in the high five figures, and his own employees were poorly paid.
Movie2K has been offline since May 29, 2013 because the domain name can not be resolved by DNS to an IP address. TorrentFreak recently contacted staff of Movie2K hoster located in Romania, who confirmed that Movie2K.to domain is inactive. The operators themselves had requested the shutdown and terminated the contract with the Romanian operator Voxility.
While Movie2K.to was no longer available, TorrentFreak was looking at the address Movie2K.com. There, visitors were redirected to Movie4K.to. Recently, the illegal streaming offer Movie4K was unlocked and is now up and running.
Now the question remains: How long will Movie4K last? Movie4K’s format strongly suggests that it is just a new portal with an old look and the known content.
