Nonetheless, there are alternatives to taking prescription and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs. Moreover, over-the-counter drugs like ibuprofen just don’t seem to cut it.
The National Vital Statistic reports indicate that deaths caused by gastrointestinal toxin effects from the use of NSAIDs is the 15th most common cause of death in the U.S.
In addition, the Journal of the American Medical Association reported in recent studies that using acetaminophen is capable of causing serious health problems to our livers.
Natural ways to make the pain go away
Long-term use of Aspirin, Tylenol, and ibuprofen can cause harmful side effects like ulcers, heart problems, and gastrointestinal bleeding. There are natural alternatives for treatment of muscle strains, arthritis, and fibromyalgia.
Consider the following natural and healthy alternatives suggested by leading doctors and professionals:
- Fish oil: Fish oil can relieve chronic pain and inflammation. Research suggests using 2 to 4 grams of DHA+EPA daily; however, read labels carefully before taking doses of fish oil. Fish oil has omega-3 fatty acids, which help with headaches, back pain, rheumatoid arthritis and nerve pain.
The relief from pain is not substantial; however, by combining fish oil with other natural alternatives like ginger or turmeric will help enhance the painkilling effects.
- Turmeric (Curcumin): Turmeric is one of the primary components of curry powder; in essence, turmeric is actually a spice. Turmeric is used to treat a variety of health conditions in certain locations of Asia and India. The belief is that turmeric has anticancer properties, as well as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents.
Curcumin is a substance of turmeric and is beneficial in reducing inflammation. It may also reduce inflammation and pain for individuals who suffer with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
- Olives: Olives contain powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties: polyphenol and hydroxytyrosol. In addition to these two health agents found in olives is a chemical called oleocanthal. Oleocanthal is similar to ibuprofen without the adverse side effects. It’s also an effective anti-inflammatory painkiller.
