The local North Jersey acting community will have a rare opportunity this September to work with Peter Mattaliano, personal acting coach to film and television actor Matthew Morrison (photo), best known for his work on the television show “Glee,” and Alicia Minshew, an actress best known for her role in the long-running soap opera “All My Children.”
Mattaliano’s Acting Lab will be held at the Summit Playhouse, 10 New England Ave., Summit, NJ on Sept. 7,8,14 and 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost of the 20 hours of training is $350. The class will be limited to 14 students.
“We will begin with the audition process of working with cold sides then eventually work on full scenes. My lab helps actors find solutions for the various acting problems that are inherent in every scene,” Mattaliano said.
He said the solutions to problems in scenes are often found in the text itself which is why he teaches actors to learn how to read a script or screenplay with the writer’s intention in mind.
All actors in the class will work in every session of the four day program on scenes that will be selected from film and television.
Actors seeking acceptance into the program should e-mail headshots, resumes and their expectations for the workshop along with any questions to firstname.lastname@example.org and include NJ Acting Lab in the subject line.
Once admitted to the class, payment should be made by check to: The Summit Playhouse and mailed to The Summit Playhouse, 10 New England Avenue, Summit,N.J. 07901, Attention: Treasurer/NJ Acting Lab. For additional information, contact Vincent Esoldi, coordinator at (908) 310-3130, E-mail: email@example.com.
According to actor Matthew Morrison of “Glee,” Mattaliano can help any actor become more adept at his or her craft.
“Peter has a clear understanding of the craft of acting, paired with a gift for communicating how to hone the essence of it. From classical to contemporary pieces, Pete’s training will undoubtedly bring out the best in any actor,” Morrison said.
For Alicia Minshew of All My Children fame, Mattaliano has opened her eyes to a new way of approaching a script.
“Pete is a warm, wonderful man who clearly loves what he does. He has given me a whole new way to approach a script and break it down,” Minshew said.
