Wisconsin’s Nora Collins, a singer-songwriter making her mark in country music, just played a busy week of concerts that finished off with a pair of shows Saturday July 27 at Brady Street Fest in Milwaukee and Sunday July 28 at Falls Fest in Menomonee Falls. Last week Nora also opened up for American Idol winner Lee DeWyze at Shank Hall and opened up for Josh Turner at the Washington County Fair. Nora is the 2012 and 2013 WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) Rising Star Award winner and 2013 WAMI Female Vocalist of the Year Nominee.
Collins is one of the hardest working musicians in the Milwaukee area and her active schedule of over 200 performances a year is testament to the dedication she has to her stellar growing career. To say that Nora Collins is gifted is a bit like saying Beethoven was simply a decent composer, it wildly understates the larger narrative of Nora’s musical journey so far.
I caught up with Collins yesterday, July 29, and asked her about her opening slots for Lee and Josh. Nora told me, “I had an amazing time opening for Lee DeWyze at Shank Hall. It was fun to play for his passionate fans. They showed me a lot of love during the show and even after they have been continuing to show support on social media. I really appreciate that. Lee was such a genuinely nice guy and that was wonderful to see. Opening for Josh Turner was a really great experience for me. He is one of my country favorites and it was an honor to take the stage and do an opening set for him. It was a thrill for me to play up on that huge stage and to feel the energy as the crowd gathered for Josh Turner. It was really a cool opportunity.”
Starting next week Nora will be playing three concerts at State Fair. On August 1 Nora plays from 3-5pm at the Sprecher stage. On August 3 and 6 Nora will play from 12-2pm at the Miller Lite Bar and Grill. Further details can be found at the schedule page at Nora’s website, and I can’t recommend enough that you catch a show and pick up her new CD, “Only The Beginning.” The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel recently listed Nora as one of the top 8 performers to see this year at the Wisconsin State Fair, which runs from August 1 to 11, ending with a performance by Miranda Lambert, who happens to be a big influence on Collins.
