May is ALS or Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis awareness month. According to ALSA or the ALS Association, there are about 15 new ALS cases daily. Former Baltimore Stallion and Raven and current Ravens’ Senior Advisor of Player Development, O.J. Brigance has been fighting ALS for more than five years. O.J. and his wife Chanda founded the Brigance Brigade to support ALS patients and their families and also to raise awareness about ALS. This month the Brigance Brigade has been very busy raising awareness and money for ALS. Earlier this month the annual Fiesta 5K raised more than $400,000 for ALS.
On May 8, 2013, O.J. Brigance spoke at the ALS Association’s Public Policy Conference Rally Dinner in front of more than 500 ALS patients and supporters. On May 16, 2013, O.J. Brigance served as a honorary captain for the University of Maryland’s baseball team when they took on the Boston College Eagles. Both teams wore Brigance Brigade shirts during warm ups to show their support for O.J. and ALS. Yesterday, O.J. and Chandra Brigance were on hand as the Baltimore Orioles showed their support for ALS awareness month. O.J. and Chandra Brigance threw out the first pitch before the Orioles defeated Washington Nationals last night. You can read more about the Brigance Brigade by clicking here.
